Greetings Fellow RIME Sysops and SysAdmins,
As you know RelayNet(tm) has been the leader in
network innovation. This approach as brought us many new
participants and resulted in rapid growth. Many List
and Newsgroup owners have asked us to distribute their
messages in our RimeGate(tm) transport system. We have now
been approached by many FIDO moderators to distribute
their echoes via RimeGate(tm). After much discussion
amongst the Council, we have decided that this would be
beneficial to RelayNet(tm) as well as the echo Users and Sysops.
We are providing our Users with virtually every
participation method available. More Users, more messages,
more bbs's, better network!
We will be adding well over a hundred new conferences
in the next few weeks and merging some FIDO area's with
existing RIME conferences. We ask that you set them up as
soon as you can AND tell your Users of the new RIME
conferences. RelayNet(tm) is Y2K and Internet ready!

Hello Folks,
RelayNet(tm) has just released a freeware program for those Sysops
who are running their own BBS web pages. The Windows9x/NT program,
ConfHTML.EXE will create a individual web page for each RIME
conference, based upon the information in the RIMECONF.TXT file.
It will also create a master RIME Conference Index page with
links to each individual conference page. If you are interested in
making this information available on your site, you may download
this program by anonymous ftp to 'ftp.relaynet.org' or the mirror
at 'ftp2.relaynet.org'. Just unzip it in its own directory, run
setup, then execute the ConfHtml.EXE. You can then examine the files
it creates, and then move them to your website.
The name of the file to download is CONFHTML.ZIP and it is
1605430 bytes in size.

Relaynet(tm) is pleased to offer the "Dead Teachers Society" for Educators
and non-educators alike! Hosted by Scott "Doc" Andersen and Indiana
University. The Society of Dead Teachers was founded in 1988. Originally
it was a group of teachers who met in a Bloomington Indiana Chi-Chi's
restaurant after school on Fridays. Teachers found they needed a place to
discuss the issues they were facing in order to grow and improve in their
craft. In 1989 the State of Indiana Department of Education ran a bulletin
board called "IDEAnet." DTS received the first non- state or governmental
forum on IDEAnet. DTS was founded on the principal of "kindling the flame
of knowledge within all students" including the very teachers discussing
the ideas.
Originally this was a nameless group of people prior to IDEAnet. When the
state offered us a forum they said we had to have a name. Personally I was
greatly inspired by the wonderful movie the "Dead Poet's Society." A group
of people who got together to share in the artists they loved. So hence the
name "Dead Teachers Society," a place to share things about the
profession we all love.

The International Genealogy Association, IGA_net has consolidated
it's bbs-level distribution system with the RIME network. IGA's internet
sites are also being re-organized. RIME has been a distribution channel for
IGA for over a year and offers it's network to bbses and users without
bbses via virtually any means. IGA has revised it's echo/conference list and
added many new areas available to RIME users. IGA will offer personalized
surname searches to all users and will continue it's genealogy-oriented
offerings.

RIME Takes Care of It's Sysops!
On November 8, 1998 RelayNet(tm) opened its Email Gateway to every
RIME Sysop who is not Internet connected or who have lost their
UUCP account. Those RIME Sysops are now able to offer free Email
to their users. The system is transparent, as the email is included
with the Sysops message packet.

as a newgroup and as an Email list and also offer access to your

A Message from the CA:
The BIG change this month is the ruling that ALL conference hosts
MUST carry the Conference Host's Conference and must at least
configure it for "Yours and All" messages. The Conference Host's
Conference will be the ONLY place where we will discuss changes in
duties, methods of moderating, etc. Also this will be the main
place where most announcements of interest to the conference host
will be posted unless it concerns the general public and sysops,
then it will also be posted in RIMENEWS. Refusing to take the
conference will be grounds for dismissal.
It is sad that we must get hard-nosed about this, but the lack of
conference host attendence in the conference specifically created
for them has forced this.
